"The Good Detective"

The Good Detective was worth the trouble of using On Demand Korea. Worth the not really easy to use website and worth the subtitles being too fast and having to decide which character said what. It's a solid detective case type show with little bits of humor thrown in to take the edge off the sometimes very heavy theme. The whole cast is strong and there was a lot of cast.
The mystery/case was really very tragic. And the innocent victim, the father, paid the ultimate price. I truly thought they would save him but when they didn't he was given the best possible sendoff with his daughter seeing him off and supporting him to the end. Completely unfair development overall but I can see why they went there with the plot.
The subplot of the sister, divorce and losing custody of the kid combined with the guilt the detective felt and having to now take care of the victim's child was a great progression of plot. That this motley crew became a family. The ex-husband was a complete louse though.
I was wondering if Ji Hyuk, the younger detective, would get a wrap on his story and I was glad he got some finality. I enjoyed his interaction with his Do Chang and appreciated it wasn't an adversarial type relationship. They had mutual respect and in their own way became a family along with the rest of the team.
I spent half of the drama being disappointed with reporter Jin Seo Kyung. The words "if only she would have" came out of my mouth a lot. She kept a lot of information or didn't deliver it in a timely manner. Not maliciously but out of a sense of reporter loyalty and misguided trust in her boss who she ultimately never should have listened to. I really liked her involvement with the Ji Hyuk and I did appreciate the few flirty/may be interested in you type scenes. I always want a bit more of that but I know this wasn't the drama for that. At least it ended with a bit a promise of more for them.
The amount of bad guys and evil people in this drama are almost unending. For a while there it was non stop evil doings. Everyone has an agenda and a secret. Thankfully the end results wrapped up nicely with a satisfactory ending albeit unrealistic that in the real world all the evil guys would have "gotten theirs".
My rating for this drama is 3.5/5. Enjoyable entertainment but not ground breaking with the extra .5 for being such a strong cast of actors.
