"Love is Sweet" Enough for Me

I don't normally review cdramas, mostly because I tend to watch the fluff ones and there's really not much to say about them. "Love is Sweet" just hit differently for me.

I've very new to cdramas and know next to nothing about Chinese actors but Bai Lu and Luo Yun Xi are going to be very hard to unseat as my favorite cdrama couple. They were perfect for these roles. Not only did they have chemistry in spades, they both had such expressive faces that made the snark scenes snarkier and the cute scenes cuter. They both delivered on the little things that make couples special. They sweet looks, the hair touching. I just found their acting together to be very pleasing and happy.

As characters, Jiang Jun was probably one of the smartest all around character (save for not knowing when someone liked her). She wasn't afraid to speak her mind, be ambitious or make her point to her boyfriend when needed. I was a bit worried about the tear allergy at first but thankful they didn't make that big a deal about it.

Yuan Shuai never wavered in his love for Jun but he always gave her the space she needed. There was only one episode he went off the stupid cliff and tried to "protect" her but it was over quickly and Jun made him realize and apologize for his actions. He definitely grew as a character. He was cocky but he also had a really big heart.

As far as romance goes, they brought it. Definitely the sweetest, best kissing scenes I've seen in a cdrama. And a little racy at times. They made us wait 20 episodes for the kissing but it was worth it and boy did they make up for it over the next 16.

One of the biggest disappointments was with the second lead. He had potential to be in the end a really great character that had significant change but that's not the direction he went. I agree with Du Lei. He never changed. He manipulated them all from the get go. He has no idea what love is. He's a loose canon with some very twisted ideas, very similar to his sister. They might not be related but they certainly think alike. I feel the worst for Jiang Jun who truly thought he was her teacher and friend. She didn't deserve to be assaulted and in the end a subject of revenge simply because she didn't return his "love". I needed Yuan Shuai to punch him a few more times instead of giving him a chance to do the right thing. Maybe he will eventually find real love and peace. And as a side note...I am glad his sister found her peace.

Xu Li, the second female lead, was by far the weak link. I never really believed that Jiang Jun would be BFF with her. Li just came off as so immature. Ever after she got the guy and married him she never trusted their love and kept testing him. For someone trying to have a baby I was expecting more growth from her. I really like Riley Wang and I even liked the character of Xiao Chuan but I just never really fell for the couple. I just finished First Romance with Riley Wang and Wan Peng and could really see what a better actress could bring to Riley Wang's acting. In the end, I didn't believe in their love, felt that Xiao Chuan catered to much to her and maybe that 1% match score was correct in the end.

What a fabulous proposal! Love the idea of them married with their adorable Corgi and a baby on the way. All in all, a really delightful rom-com. I will think fondly on Jiang Jun and Yuan Shuai for a long, long time.

4/5 Really enjoyed it with just a few glaring flaws.
